Accomodation Plans and Academic Learning Suggestions
As a result of team observation and/or a period of pre-diagnostic intervention and input regarding student needs, various levels of support may be offered to the student and documented with a written plan. Plans developed for students by the Learning Specialist are designed to document specific information about the student’s learning needs. Plans will include description of the student’s strengths, identify areas of concern and will delineate goals and strategies to address the student’s needs.

Students with diagnosed disabilities may qualify for reasonable accommodations (see Criteria for Diagnosis and Eligibility and Reasonable Accommodations) to their academic program, which is documented through a written Accommodation Plan.
Once a student has been evaluated and the educational and/or psychological report has been provided to the Learning Specialist, the Learning Specialist will review the report and write a draft of the Accommodation Plan within two weeks of receiving the evaluation.
The Learning Specialist, in consultation with department chairs and division head if necessary, is responsible for final determination of what interventions are appropriate based on the diagnostic evaluation and within the academic framework of Albuquerque Academy.
Accommodation Plans will be in effect for the duration of the time that the student attends Albuquerque Academy, unless changes occur that indicate the plan is no longer necessary.
Plans will be reviewed at the beginning of each school year, again in the second semester and rewritten or modified as needed. Monitoring of the plan, its use and effectiveness in the classroom, may range from weekly monitoring to twice-yearly monitoring.
Educational diagnostic evaluations provide important information about a student’s learning needs and style, but do not always result in the diagnosis of a learning disability or other disabling condition. Information contained in diagnostic reports may reveal information that should be shared with the student’s classroom teachers. The Learning Specialist will write Academic Learning Suggestions that outline issues leading up to the referral for a diagnosis, support provided prior to the referral, and will describe any information contained in the diagnostic report that may have an impact on the classroom. The plan will also include suggestions to support the student, but are not mandated accommodations.
Students may require limited support for a short period of time, while other students will need support throughout their time at Albuquerque Academy.
As seventh and ninth grade students rise to a new division, learning specialists will communicate and provide all documentation to the next division. Accommodation Plans and Learning Suggestions that remain in place will be reviewed with parents at end the of the transition year. In the 8-9 and 10-12 Divisions, existing plans for rising students will be disseminated to classroom teachers prior to the start of a new school year. After 10 days of the start of the new school year, plans are redistributed in an attempt to address class and teacher changes.
